Chief Master Sgt. John C. DeRaedt is currently the First Sergeant for the 180th Fighter Wing and 180th FW Operations Group, Ohio Air National Guard, Swanton, Ohio. DeRaedt is a native of Toledo Ohio and in 1986, prior to graduation from high school, enlisted in the Ohio Air National Guard and graduated from Basic Military Training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Following graduation from BMT, he immediately began 11 months of training at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Miss., as Electronic Warfare System Specialist. Upon completion of training, DeRaedt worked in the 180th ECM section maintaining the systems on the A-7 aircraft and ALQ-119 Radar Jamming Pod and later trained to maintain the ALQ-131, and ALQ-184 electronic countermeasures pods being fl own on the F-16 aircraft platform. In addition to his primary duties, DeRaedt volunteered and received training as a crew chief Augmentee on the A-7 aircraft, Security Forces Augmentee, F-16 Fuel Tank Buildup Team, Crash Recovery Team, and Operational Readiness Inspection Matrix, Emergency Operations Center, and Exercise Evaluation Teams.
In November of 2007, DeRaedt was selected as the First Sergeant for the Maintenance Squadron, Maintenance Operations Flight, and the 180th FW Maintenance Group. He attended the First Sergeant Academy at Maxwell AFB, Gunter Annex in Montgomery, Ala. In December of 2011, DeRaedt was selected to serve as the 180th Fighter Wing and Operations Group First Sergeant. Competing in a state-wide interview board, DeRaedt was promoted to Chief Master Sgt. under the Ohio National Guard's EPP program in 2012.
DeRaedt has deployed with the 180th Fighter Wing as an Electronic Warfare Systems Specialist to Skuthorpe, England, Incirlik Air Base, Turkey and Al Jabber AB, Kuwait in support of joint operations including Operation Provide Comfort, Operations Northern Watch Southern Watch.
He served as First Sergeant for the wing's 2009 deployment to Nellis AFB, Nev., for a Red Flag training exercise. He also fi lled the First Sergeant role for the wing's 2012 Operational Readiness Exercise deployment.
DeRaedt holds Associate degrees in Applied Science, Avionic Systems Technologies, in Human Resource Management from the Community College of the Air Force, and a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science. DeRaedt's fulltime civilian position is president of DTech Integrations Services, LLC, a software consulting fi rm he founded in 2001. He is also the vice president of Stevens Fire Chemicals, Inc. and DeTec Industrial Solutions, Inc.
