A Message From the Wing Commander Published Dec. 1, 2011 By Col. Steven S. Nordhaus 180th Fighter Wing Swanton, Ohio -- 180th Airmen, Wow, it's December already. I can't believe it. This year has flown by and our Team moved significantly closer to our goal of being the Best Fighter Wing in the World. Nearly 100 members volunteered for combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan. That's roughly 10 percent of the wing who raised their hand to serve. I'm humbled. Best of the best in ACA; successful Health Service, Airfield Traffic System and ESOHCAMP Inspections. We received the REAP award for energy reduction...best in the Air Force. We received the USAF Design and Construction Award and the AF Outstanding Unit Award as well. Maintenance has risen our Mission Capable rates for 5 consecutive months and meet the ANG standard of 69% Mission Capable Rates for two months in a row--both are 1st for the wing in a very long time. These are just a few of our successes this year. Your incredible efforts have made a significant impact to our nation and its defense. As the Air Force and Department of Defense look for ways to trim force structure, you have made a statement that the 180 FW is MISSION READY! Please have a terrific Holiday Season.
