Honoring those who served before us...
World War II veteran, Merle Altaffer reflects on his military experiences during a breakfast sponsored by the the Honor Flight of Northwest Ohio committee on March 30, 2008. After the breakfast, Mr. Altaffer and 28 other WW II veterans made a long awaited trip to Washington D.C. to visit the WW II memorial, see the Changing of the Guards and to have lunch with Ohio Congress Woman Marcy Kaptur. The Honor Flight mission is to transport America's veterans to Washington D.C. to see the memorials that have been dedicated to honor them, all free of charge to the veterans. Mr. Altaffer served in the Army as a combat infantryman from 1943 to 1946 under General George S. Patton and was part of the invasion of South France. USAF Photo by TSgt Beth Holliker (Released).
